The L.A. Zine Fest Screenprinting Social!

Last night in Los Angeles there was an event going on called the L.A. Zine Fest at Home Room. First off, the L.A. Zine Fest is a wonderful little organization run by an awesome group of women. The organiztaion, like the name may suggest, puts together/host events were people can show their work/sell, learn how to make their own zine's, and meet/network with other creative and like-minded individuals. For those of you who do not know what a zine is, a zine, as defined by Wikipedia, "is most commonly a small circulation publication of original or appropriated texts and images. More broadly, the term encompasses any self-published work of minority interest usually reproduced via photocopier." This particuler night L.A. Zine Fest was having a silkscreening event with some musical acts and of course venders selling their zines, patches, and other small trinkets. You could bring your own t-shirt and get one of three images silkscreened on to it. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring a shirt with me but next time I will make sure that I bring one with me. Outside of the the event they were selling vegan tacos for a dollar. YES, YOU HEARD ME RIGHT! $1! Probably the cheapest vegan tacos you will ever get! For $2 you could get your taco with "the works" which included avacados and buffalo chips! Good stuff! The inside of the venue was filled with things that seemed to be knitted or sewn together. I happened to snap a couple of shots and I shall post them below this section.

There were three bands(Annah Anti-palindrome, On a Clear Day, and Gibbons and the Sluts) that performed and a DJ to close out the night. The first two musicians actually split their set with each other. The first performer was Annah Anti-palindrome from Oakland. She performed with a loop pedal, tunning fork, a bowl with an egg and a whisk, two small bottles of whiskey, for precussion of course, and a xylophone. It was probably one of the coolest things i have seen in a while. For two of her songs she had the crowd participate with her, once saying the vowels of the alphabet and the other time asking us to write, in one sentence, one of our favourite memories. After Annah Anti-palindrome, On a Clear Day, from Seattle, performed. Her set also included a loop pedal to loop vocal sounds, just like Annah Anti-palindrome had done with hers, and an accordion. As she would say most of her songs are either "about nature or heart break" but they were all really wonderful. Unfortuantely I could not stay for the last band because I had other buisness to attend to but I will post their link again on the end of the page. It was a great and fun event I am sure they will have more coming out so please check it out!

On a Clear Day and Annah Anti-palindrome are currently on tour so check out  their tour schedule to see if they are coming by your town!

As promised here is were you can check out Gibbons and the Sluts

On Feb. 19th L.A. Zine Fest is having another event from 11a.m. to 5p.m. come out and check out the fun! Don't miss out!
