Return from the disease ridden holidays!

Hello people of the interwebs! How have you all been? How did the holidays treat you? Well as you can tell from the title of this blog, it did not go too well for this blogger but that doesn't mean that nothing exciting has happened in music these last couple of weeks! Before my companions and I became ill we caught a very exciting show in Hermosa Beach at a bar called Saint Rocke. The acts that performed on this evening were as follows: Seasons (A five piece from Highland Park, CA that plays great psychedelic pop music), From./Vaudeville (Now this may need a little explaining. Two members from From. are also in the band Vaudeville. Both of these bands are three pieces and are from the South Bay and will, on occasion, have guest musicians come and play trumpet, keyboard, and other instruments. It would be hard to explain their sound it varies from nice mellow music to fast pace instrumentals.) and lastly Ocho Diez ( Also a three piece also hailing from the South Bay, they play a mix of hardcore punk and reggae. When we were there they played a great version of Bad Brains' Big Take Over.) It was a real good night of amazing music.

There were a lot of great shows in the first couple of weeks of the new year. Here are two that we had the opportunity to go to:
On the 7th of January there was a show at the Tribal Cafe, in Echo Park, and the bands that performed that night are as follows: Sound Comes In Waves (A two pieces punk band from the San Gabriel Valley), IGAF Sequoia (A three pieces from the South Bay. They had a blue grass feel to them that was very nice and refreshing to hear.), Whirlynn (Another three piece from the Los Angeles area. They like to describe themselves as "Performance Art Dream Stuff" and it sounds pretty darn good too!), And lastly Last Legs (Please refer to the WeCan/ELLAS post to read up on them).

On the 10th of January there was a show at The Prospector  in Long Beach, the bands that performed on this night were Last Legs, Basque (A four piece from the Los Angeles area. As my friend Odi put it, " they're like heavy metal without the metal.". Which is a big two thumbs up from the Hipster Kill Hipster camp.), and lastly was the Shirley Rolls (They could number from 1 to 10, they are a very crazy band that way. think of them as a rock n' roll super group AND they are extremely loud! One of my favorite combinations.)
