Hello there, Hipsters and Hip-ettes!
Bob here! I'm glad to announce that this is my inaugural article on Hipster-Kill-Hipster! You may be wondering "who the hell is this guy and why am I so turned on by his sexy beard?" Well, I'll tell ya! I helped design the fabulous green and black beauty you see before you! (If at this point you find that the beard is distracting you from productively using your hands, it's time to scroll down and read ahead!)
I, like my eloquent counterparts, John and Odi, greatly enjoy independent/unsigned/underground music. As you may have also realized, we are also total geeks and we enjoy tearing sh*t up at a game of RISK to the tune of They Might Be Giants!
Well, amidst my nightly surfing of the information super highway known as the Internet, I found a chart that places the Geek at odds with the Hipster;
Now, we all know that the Geek has been the bane of popularity ever since the pocket protector and allergy medicine was invented. The Geek, although socially unaccepted, congregates with like-minded role-players and often engage in conversations that require a mathematical equation to decipher.
Now, the Hipster seemingly rules the urban and metropolitan night life. The Hipster can be considered a revivalist of sorts. From liking things "before they were cool", to demanding the most obscure beer on the list, the Hipster is a compete social opposite of the Geek.
Both Geek and Hipster are engaged in an unspoken battle of wits and nonsensical pop-culture references. But let's be frank; the former of the species studies the Big Bang theory and all its complexities... the latter exalts "The Big Bang Theory" and all its irony.
BecomeCareer and Geeks Are Sexy have put together an infographic comparing and contrasting these seemingly similar, yet vastly different connoisseurs of underground culture..
